Best time
Early morning for the climb at Golconda, or late afternoon for softer light. Avoid the middle of a hot day.
Getting there
Golconda and the Qutb Shahi Tombs are close to each other on the western edge of the old city. A single cab for the half day is the simplest plan.
Golconda Fort
Golconda is a vast hill fort with layers of walls and gateways, and it was once known for its diamond trade. The acoustics near the entrance are a famous party trick: a clap at the right spot can be heard far up the hill.
Climb to the top for the view across the city. Bring water and wear shoes with grip.
Qutb Shahi Tombs
A short drive from the fort, the Qutb Shahi Tombs are a quiet garden of domed tombs built for the rulers of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. The domes and arches are the real draw. This is the place to slow down and photograph.
Paigah Tombs
The Paigah Tombs are known for their delicate lattice work. They are smaller and less crowded, which makes them a nice add-on if you have the energy.
Local tips
- Check opening days before you go. Some monuments close one day a week.
- Carry water and a hat. There is little shade on the climb.
- In Gpsy, the Forts and Tombs collection gives you the full set to tick off. Large sites have a larger check-in radius, so you can stamp from the grounds.
